Port Girardeau and the Great Mississippi

My first night on the journey east was spent in Salina Kansas. I'll skip over the details because nothing noteworthy happened there in this sleepy truck stop of a town. That's what I get for booking a cheap motel off the highway. Booking.com can make even the saddest of places seem appealing.  My next night was spent on the Mississippi River in a Grench settlement called Cape Girardeau. It's also the hometown of Rish Limbaugh and according to the hotel clerk had just been in town. I don't usually discuss politics but I sensed this gal was a Trump voter and couldn't help myself.

The town is protected by a levee to keep the town from flooding. Although decorated with murals, it looked like it needed some sprucing up.

The mighty Mississippi looking calm this morning
