Narvik, Norway,

There's not much landmass in Notway this far north, so I thought I'd catch some of the fjord country before heading off on the Kungsleden.  It's just an 1.5 by train to the small coastal village of Narvik.  This entire region is known for its iron ore mining. The entire town of Kiruna n Sweden was moved to a new location when the mining operation moved.  What an expense that must be in order to protect jobs and the local economy. During WWII, Narvik was invaded by the Germans because of the iron ore coming from Sweden to this port.  The Norwegians along with the British attempted to defend themselves, but the Nazis proved relentless and eventually gained control.

The train ride was filled with spectacular scenery. Just as you crossed from Swefen to Norway it became mountainous with great waterfalls. The fjord where Narvik sits soon protruded into the landscape.  Another set of great views from the top of the ski lift.  Narvik is most known as a winter resort.

From the train--how does it get better than this?
