Sturgeon Bay, WI

I had one of those last minute decisions to avoid camping in the rain. It was prompted by a ten mile traffic backup giving me time to rethink my strategy for the next two nights. So I quickly did a u-turn and headed to Green Bay. I usually size up a place ahead of time, so when I arrived in Green Bay it was late afternoon and I wasn’t particularly drawn to the city.  A quick look at the map and off I went to Sturgeon Bay, which turned out to be a way better choice. I found s quirky motel called The Holiday Music motel. It was decorated in retro 50’s style, but very tasteful and fun.  Better than your cookie cutter Days or Comfort Inn.   Sights in the area included Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park.  The weather cleared and I was able to enjoy some nice hiking along the dunes.  Cave Point is best seen by kayak.  This area fits on a peninsula of land with Green Bay on the west  side and Lake Michigan  on the east.
