Villaluenga Del Rosario

Today's hike took us from Grazalema to another even smaller village of Villaluenga del Rosario.  In recent years it has become famous for its Poyoyo breed of goats, which produce award-winning goat cheese that is in great demand all over Europe.  We saw several large herds of these goats and when left to range freely,  will eat rosemary, thyme, scrub oak and just about anything they can reach. This enhances the flavor of their already high quality milk.  I'm looking forward to bringing some back to Frigiliana. Apparently it ages really well in the fridge in its semi-cured stage, which is a harder cheese than the soft  version we're used to in the US.

The hike took us through a varied landscape of limestone mountains, lots of rock outcrops and lush meadows with lots of wildflowers--orchids, daffodils, thistle, star of Bethlehem, peonies, cistus, asphodelus, among others.
