Alet-le-Bain itself was our base for the week and we had a chance to explore its former abbey, church and surrounding village.
I started this blog in 2004 when I walked my first Camino in Spain. Since that time I've walked two others, the links are to the left. In between, I've travelled throughout Europe and Africa and most recently the US. I'll be embarking on another long distance walk on the Florida Scenic Train, starting in March of 2019.

Alet-le-Bains
We arrived in our small village in the heart of Csthar country. The Cathars were a group of independently minded Chridtiams who broke away from the Catholic Church in. In the 13th century they were persecuted by the Inquisition and virtually exterminated. Those that remained went underground to practice their beliefs. So this area has a history rich in culture and violence. We visited many places where Cathars lived high up in the mountains in fortified villages.
